A Haunting on West Street is the latest from Room Escape Southend and in our opinion it’s their best so far.
As we’ve come to expect from RES, their set is amazing. It’s so clear how much effort they put in to making sure you really feel like you’ve just entered a house and our host was as lovely as ever too.
RES always have a live actor somewhere in their room, so be aware if you’ve never been before, but on this occasion they were less in your face than usual. In fact, there was more growing suspense than jump scares, although there were a couple of jump scares too. It was the right balance we think.
Usually, if there’s an actor distracting you the puzzles are a bit easier to compensate but because the actor was less intrusive, the puzzles were harder than usual. That’s not to say they were very difficult but there was more variety and challenge then we expected, to be truthful. We were very pleasantly surprised.
The story held together quite well and we managed to escape in our average time of 45-50 mins.
There were 5 of us and we all had stuff to do (some in pairs because wimps) so 3-6 probably ideal in our opinion.
