Escapement – Pirates of Polaris – 7/10

Margate, Kent

Aboard the ship Polaris, you and your shipmates have been thrown in the brig. Your hopes for being let out are dimming. Suddenly, a mutiny breaks out. All you can hear from your prison are screams, gunshots and thuds.

After a while, the fighting stops and an eerie silence prevails. You find that you can make your way out of the brig. The rest of the crew has abandoned the ship, and there’s a storm raging.

Can you and your mates work as a team and steer the ship safely to land?

USP: Pirates of Polaris features artefacts from a real life 130 year old ship salvaged from Sandwich Marina.

Played September 2022

Our second room of the day at Escapement was Pirates of Polaris. It’s a classic escape room theme these days and the intro and décor of the room did not disappoint. Lots of wood and ship related memorabilia help kit the room out nicely. Again, the guys add a decent amount of story to help the immersion.

The ship had a lot of thematic and story driven puzzles and your GM will find ways to make the game harder or easier depending on how you’re doing, which is great. The third room I found particularly interesting.

Unfortunately, one of the puzzles, due to wear and tear, wasn’t working properly and it tripped us up for quite a while, which did detract the experience a little. Afterwards we were told it was being replaced soon so this may not be a problem for any future escapers.

It was still a fun room and one that would appeal to a variety of escapers, from newbies to enthusiasts. Ideally I would say 2-4 is the perfect number for this room, but 5 or 6 would still work. We’ll be back to see more of Escapement’s offerings soon.
