Escape Live Essex – Room 13 – 7.5/10

Southend, Essex.

Room 13 is a unique experience which is not for the faint-hearted. Amy is locked in a room and is relying on your team’s wit and skill to get her out alive. You are her only hope. You must piece together clues, solve puzzles and find objects to get the four digit number you need to release her. With just 60 minutes to rescue Amy, will you manage to save her life?

Played – June 2016

The owners here in Southend have taken on a franchise of the rooms in Birmingham so if you’ve done a room 13 there, you won’t need to do this one. They are passionate about escape rooms and we have high hopes for them..

Room 13 has a horror them as you can tell but is not very scary. Teenagers would likely be fine in here but maybe not young children. The décor as you go in is very good in this room and really helps with the immersion. The timer also helps keep you immersed which is not something you usually get.

The puzzles though were quite simple. Lots of observation and searching in here and not a lot else. They also didn’t all fit the theme really which brought the immersion factor down a little. A real shame.

Overall a good room for newbies or people who have done just a few rooms already. Teams of 2-4 probably best though in our opinion.

Theme/Immersion – 7.5
Puzzles/Variety – 7
Fun Factor – 7.5
Difficulty – 7
